Define and describe the concept of medical pluralism.

  • Medical pluralism is an approach to treatment that employs more than one medical system for one or more conditions at once.

Define and explain the relationship between ontology and epistemology.

  •  Both are key in giving answers
    •  Epistemology
    •  The way we know things. 
    •  Descriptive in nature.
    •  Ontology
    •  The way thing really are.
    •  Binary in nature.

Define and describe the biomedical and biopsychosocial models.

  •  Biomedical model looks at the physical body and tries to cure the patient with only physical facts
  •  Biopsychosocial model looks at 3 components to cure the patient:
    •  “Bio”: Biological => Clinical aspects.
    •  “Psycho”: Psychological => Individual/personal factors.
    •  “Social”: Social => Contextual, environmental, and occupational factors.
