Session Summary and reflection

Reading academic journal articles is crucial for studying, especially for postgraduate studies, research, policy development, and report writing. This session focuses on improving academic reading skills, emphasizing the importance of reading with purpose before writing. The SQ3R method is introduced as an effective approach to reading complex texts:

1. Survey: Skim the text to determine its usefulness by reviewing titles, abstracts, headings, and other key elements.

2. Question: Reflect on what you know and what questions arise after surveying.

3. Read: Read actively, focusing on key points and revisiting difficult sections.

4. Recall: Summarize the main points in your own words to reinforce understanding and avoid plagiarism.

5. Review: Revisit the text to ensure your notes are accurate and relate them to your assignments, noting bibliographic details for
